Grzegorz Wolak was in a red Ford Explorer when he struck Rachel McNeil on Passaic and Aycrigg avenues around 11:15 p.m. April 10, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Passaic Chief of Police Luis A. Guzman said. McNeil died two days later at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.

McNeil, who worked at nearby St. Mary's General Hospital, had two sons, a daughter, and 13 grandchildren, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

Wolak fled the area in an unknown direction. During the investigation, detectives learned that the vehicle was registered and operated by Grzegorz Wolak at the time of the incident.

Wolak was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, second-degree. He is in custody awaiting his first appearance at Central Judicial Processing.

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office will file a motion for pre-trial detention which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge at a date and time to be determined by the Court.
